8-Week Parenting Support Group

Are you feeling overwhelmed by your child’s strong emotions?
Is your child having meltdowns or outbursts, or does your child shutdown when stressed?
Do you have difficulties handling these challenging life moments and want to learn some strategies to help deal with these challenges?
Or, perhaps, would you like to learn new researched-informed parenting strategies to help foster parent-child connections and apply them to you to your daily life?
If the answer is yes, this group could be for you!
The parent group is based on the discoveries from recent research on brain development, on emotional intelligence, and how parents can improve the parent-child relationship through some simple changes and strategies. Each session will build upon the previous session, and will become a supportive, confidential environment for parents to share and try out parenting strategies. The support group is limited to 12 people.
This confidential group is based on the on the work of Dr. John Gottman and Dr. Julie Schwarz Gottman “Emotion Coaching – The Heart of Parenting”. Objectives include:
- Learning how to recognize, respond to & validate what your child is feeling
- Learn how to be an emotional coach using the 5 steps of emotional coaching
- Discover practical ways to express understanding & empathy
- Learn how to set limits & problem-solve with your children
New Group Starting: Thursday Evenings, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. starting Oct. 11th
Cost: Coronado SAFE counseling program is based on a sliding scale. Youth and families of Coronado are never turned away for financial reasons.
